50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED

9. Logan - Logan

Logan Ending

After what was something of a rollercoaster ride within Fox's X-Men films, as well as two solo outings that never gave Wolverine the franchise that he deserved, Hugh Jackman's iconic superhero finally got a proper goodbye with Logan. This was always going to be emotional, but director James Mangold outdid himself.

The film threw the rule book out the window, earning both its R rating and ultimately its place among the greatest comic book movies of all time. Adapting the Old Man Logan storyline meant that the titular character was always likely to die before the end, but that arguably made it all the harder to swallow.

Particularly as the film took everything away from Logan, leaving him in a world in which the mutants were all but gone, including his fellow X-Men. As his healing factor waned, and he reached the end of his road, he was given something to truly fight for: Laura (Dafne Keen), who was cloned from his DNA, and the group of mutants they found at Eden.

Logan was ultimately killed by X-24, a version of himself that was better than him in every single way, but as heartbreaking as his death was, it was his goodbye to Laura that made it so traumatic. Dafne Keen was sensational in this film, as of course was Hugh Jackman, and they both gave some of their best work as audiences finally said goodbye to one of the greatest cinematic superheroes of all time.
