50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED

Characters are killed in movies all the time, but these were the hardest to shake.

As most movie fans will know, killing off a character can be an incredibly effective way to evoke an emotional response from an audience (when done well, of course).

However, even among the strong examples, there are levels to this. Not all death scenes on the big screen carry the same emotional weight. Some can be brushed off pretty quickly once the credits have rolled, while others can be traumatising.

The latter can come as the result of a bunch of different factors. It could be due to the strength of the connection between a character and those watching, how gory and difficult to watch their death may be, or even how unexpected the death itself was. Death scenes come in all shapes and sizes, and they all have a habit of generating a unique response depending on their execution.

But what about the outright most traumatising? There are 50 scenes from 50 different films on this list. Some have been upsetting, and some have been unforgettably violent. Some have seen characters perish after years on screen, while some lasted only minutes and others came out of the blue.

These movie deaths were all different, but no matter how they unfolded, they were all traumatising in their own individual way.

50. Zara Young - Jurassic World

A film like Jurassic World simply promises death and destruction. After all, we're talking about an island full of dinosaurs, and if the credits rolled without at least one character getting eaten by one of these monsters, you'd be pretty disappointed.

There have been numerous villains who have received their comeuppance at the hands of the likes of the Tyrannosaurus, the Velociraptors, and the Dilophosaurus, while there have even been others that were far from bad guys, like Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff) in The Lost World, who was ripped apart by two of the apex predators for the crime of being just a normal guy.

Arguably the most brutal Jurassic World death, however, happened to a character so minor that many may not have even recognised her name at the top of this entry. Zara Young (Katie McGrath) was Claire Dearing's (Bryce Dallas Howard) assistant, and she barely featured in the movie outside of looking after Zach and Gray (Nick Robinson and Ty Simkins) for a minute or two.

Part of the reason why her death was so traumatic was that she was such a minor character and couldn't have done less to deserve something like this. The other reason was that she was tossed around by the Pterosaurs before being eaten whole by the Mosasaurus, something that stood out as unnecessarily brutal amid the countless deaths caused by the Pterosaurs.

No one deserved a death like that, let alone the most unassuming character in the entire film.
