We're slightly cheating here as this entry involves an actress and their director but when said director is one of Hollywood's most well known actors, we think it's perfectly valid to include.

Charlize Theron (the actor) and Sean Penn (the director) were an item while they worked on the refugee drama The Last Face together in 2014 and were even rumoured to be engaged. However, by the time they walked the red carpet at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival premiere to promote it, things had significantly cooled and their relationship had ended.

As for The Last Face, it was roundly panned by the critics, with Theron and co-star Javier Bardem each being labelled with 'career worst' performances in a film accused of depicting 'refugee porn'. The movie ultimately ended up being quietly released in the summer of 2017 on DirecTV.

These days it's a toss-up as to whether their brief romance or The Last Face is more forgettable in the public eye.
