6 Blockbusters From 2015 That Almost Had Completely Different Endings
4. The Ending Would Have Focused Completely On Setting Up More Sequels - Furious 7
Furious 7 had a difficult and ultimately poignant production process, given that actor Paul Walker - who played the lead role of Brian O'Conner across the span of five movies - was killed in a car accident halfway through shooting. As a result, the entire movie had to be rewritten in order to make-up for the fact that Walker wasn't available. And it's - for the most part - an entirely seamless film; unless somebody told you outright, you'd probably never notice that Walker had only been involved with half of the picture. The ending of Furious 7 played out as something of a tribute to Walker. Brian is seen on a beach with his wife and son, as the rest of the team look on and decide that ultimately he's better off with his family. At this point, Dom, played by Vin Diesel, drives off, but Brian follows him and the pair meet at a crossroads. As "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa plays in the background of the scene, the best friends say farewell and go their separate ways. Director James Wan spoke vaguely about an alternate ending, though:
"The original ending of Furious 7 was setting up, you know, the bigger world of where the Fast and Furious franchise could go into. And thats obviously very smart of them to think so. But when the tragedy happened, all of that became irrelevant. So it did not matter anymore, all of that stuff. And to the studios credit, they did not push for that. They realized how important it was to make a movie that finishes and that just outright is a tribute to Paul Walker."
Clearly the studio made the right call on this one, of course; setting up more Furious films was the least important thing to do in the situation.
