5. The Write Guys
Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are the next pieces of the Deadpool puzzle worth a look. Way back in 2009, they wrote a little horror-comedy called Zombieland, and their latest scripting effort, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, hit theaters on March 27th. They are also writing and executive-producing a Zombieland TV series pilot for Amazon (one of 11 pilots Amazon is making available on their site). Besides their spec script for Deadpool, Reese and Wernick have also written the script for a Venom film, which was meant to spin off of Sam Raimis Spiderman 3, but never did due to the latters reasonably abysmal reception. The Deadpool script leaked online some time ago, and the reception from those who read it was largely positive. The writers have shown their talent for offbeat action-comedy with Zombieland, and while Deadpool is by no means an identical project, their stylings and approach bode well for the character and the rather unique setup and execution required to bring Deadpool off the page.
