6 Reasons Terminator: Dark Fate Won't Save The Franchise

5. The Shoe-Horning Of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Age Into The Plot

Terminator Salvation wasn't great, but it was a decent enough blockbuster. What was terrible and threatened to make the whole thing a Terminator parody was when a fully CGI Arnold Schwarzenegger turned up, because well, you've got to have Arnold in a Terminator film right?

Unfortunately it's just that kind of pandering to fans that could derail Dark Fate. The insistence that Schwarzenegger needs to reprise the role of the Terminator means that the plot will have to be moulded to cater for his age, and much like it did in Genysis, may come across forced and a bit cheesy.

Though the idea of Schwarzenegger returning to one of his most iconic roles is certainly an exciting prospect, the story should come first and not the star, with fresh, original ideas not being restricted because they have to fit him in. After all, does it really make sense that Cyberdyne Systems would make ageing skin and flesh, giving their cyborgs a sell-by date?

They'll have to come up with something a bit cleverer to explain the machine's ageing in order to prevent audiences drawing a collective sigh.
