6 Reasons Why Living In The Harry Potter Universe Would Suck

4. Date Rape Is Easy, Affordable, And Apparently Not a Big Deal

Harry Potter Ron Love Potion In the Harry Potter universe, love potions can't actually create feelings of love but will induce serious infatuation and obsession. And it seems that nobody really has a big problem with it since the only restrictions on love potions appears to be that they're banned at Hogwarts. So away from Hogwarts, you can use them to drug whoever you like. Romilda Vane, a fourth year Gryffindor, tries to drug Harry with a love potion during his sixth year that Ron ends up taking accidentally and when Hermione hears what she's planning, her reaction is pretty much just "Watch your back" rather than "Harry, Romilda's trying to drug you. Tell Professor McGonagall" which really should be the immediate response to an infatuated teenager trying to drug your best friend for romantic purposes. The negative effects of love potions are shown pretty clearly though since Voldemort was conceived by his mother continually drugging and having sex with a Muggle she had a crush on. Who abandoned her once she stopped giving him the potion. But other than them being a part of Voldemort's Freudian excuse for being such a raving lunatic, the use of them is considered quirky and not a big problem rather than magic date rape. Even though their danger is only compounded by the fact that they become progressively stronger as they age. As well as the process of brewing a love potion seemingly not being too difficult, they're also sold by Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes where special care is taken to disguise them as perfume and cough medicine so that they can be easily smuggled into Hogwarts for girls to happily drug the boys they have a crush on at a low price. Which basically makes Fred and George Weasley the equivalent of a creepy guy who will sell you Rohypnol out of a duffel bag on a street corner.
