6 Reasons Why Living In The Harry Potter Universe Would Suck

3. Wizarding Law Is Built On Institutionalised Racism

Harry Potter Centaurs Even though the extreme prejudice against Muggles and Muggle-born wizards only takes off after Voldemort seizes control over the Ministry Of Magic, the wizarding world is still fundamentally racist before he takes over. Goblins, elves, centaurs and anybody else who is sentient but non-human is treated like a second class citizen regardless of their intelligence and possession of various kinds of magic that wizards are incapable of using. All because they are non-human and not considered to be on the same emotional and intellectual level as witches and wizards. A centuries old but still actively enforced law decrees that anybody non-human isn't allowed to carry a wand, centaurs are classed as subhuman and only allowed to live on ground granted to them by the Ministry, and werewolves (Because, in the Harry Potter universe, lycanthropy is a metaphor for HIV) find it almost impossible to find jobs because of Ministry legislation against them. And as well as that, there's everyday racism like Hagrid hiding away in shame after it's revealed that he's half-giant and Madame Maxime vehemently denying the obvious fact that she's also half-giant in order to avoid prejudice. Though apparently if you're part Veela, nobody cares because they're probably too busy dribbling over you. Wizards don't have a problem with foreigners but if you're not completely human, prepare for a pretty sucky life.
