6 Things New To Netflix This Week (Dec 7)

3. Oldboy

Spike Lee directs this 2013 remake of the broody South Korean thriller, written as one word to play havoc with any computer's spellchecker. In Oldboy, Josh Brolin plays Joe Doucett, an advertising executive determined to find out why he was imprisoned for 20 years. Two decades in solitary confinement can have its upsides, like earning an exceptional amount of interest on your savings and being blissfully unaware of who the Spice Girls are. In this case, Brolin's character chooses to see the glass as half-empty and sets out to uncover the truth, meeting Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Imperioli along the way. There's also a decent one-take fight scene in a hallway to get excited about. Oldboy (2013) is on Netflix now, as is the original if you fancy a double-bill.
