6 Ways James Bond Could Change For The Modern World
3. Change the Meaning Behind Superficial Status Symbols
Flashy suits, fast cars and gadgets. James Bond loves all of these things. Is this an out of touch convention and should therefore be replaced? Well, no. Not necessarily.
These were all status symbols, put in place to enunciate the suave and sophisticated nature of James Bond's character. There's nothing wrong with this in principle. The trouble comes when the character developers a superiority complex when in possession of such trinkets. This is James Bond after all, but it's a gimmick that could risk alienating modern audiences.
Perhaps a better spin would be for him to retain his love of these items, but to declare them honestly as a vice. The suits and cars have always served as an element of entertainment within the franchise, so why not make them mildly humorous? Bond's endless obsession with the Aston Martin could be taken more as an Achilles' heel, which mildly puts him at odds with his surroundings. But as this is now a quirky nuance, fans will love him all the more for it.
