The big twist that "Franz Oberhauser" was really Ernst Stavro Blofeld could be seen coming from a mile off, and despite the fact that Spectre handled that reveal in the most heavy handed way imaginable, there's still a lot which could and should be done with this villain. After all, he deserves better than his cringeworthy role in the movie's underwhelming final act, and making him the big bad of this franchise moving forward is a must. Now that we've moved past Blofeld being responsible for everything bad which has happened to 007 since Casino Royale (a plot point which is destined to go down as one of the worst retcons in movie history), the chance to do something really special with him is there, especially as the one thing Spectre did do right was leaving the horribly scarred villain in a position to want revenge against his his childhood "friend." Christoph Waltz has said that the only way he'll come back is if Daniel Craig does, but someone else taking on this role wouldn't be the end of the world. Considering the fact that Waltz is an actor who has been an incredible villain in so many movies - even The Green Hornet! - it's shocking how underwhelming his performance was in Spectre, so his departure wouldn't be a huge loss. The character's on the other hand would.
