7 Actors Who Tried To Be Directors (And Totally Failed)

1. Dolph Lundgren

Completing the tri-fecta of action stars in our list who tried to make movies, we have in our #1 spot Dolph Lundgren. From 2004-to-2010, the Expendables star directed 6 movies starring himself, with as predictably daft titles as you'd expect: The Defender (which has Jerry Springer playing the President of the United States), The Russian Specialist, Diamond Dogs, Missionary Man, Command Performance (which shows off Lundgren's drumming skills, and also features his young daughter Ida in a role), and The Killing Machine. Unsurprisingly, though reviews are pretty difficult to come across, the films appear to range from mediocre-to-terrible, even if his streak of directing these little-known films suggests that someone does enjoy them, and somehow they do in fact turn a profit. As such, perhaps it's a tad unfair to say that Lundgren failed to be a director, as he did, even if they're all seemingly within a wheelhouse so niche and generic that anyone but the most ardent Lundgren die-hards wouldn't go anywhere near them. He's not exactly pulling a Stallone and directing high-budget studio flicks, and he hasn't made a film in 4 years. One has to wonder why not if this is such a lucrative gravy train for the muscle-bound actor. Did we miss any actors who tried their hand at directing and failed? Let us know in the comments!
