7 Awesome Movie Heroes (Who Are Actually Incredibly Boring)

1. Harry Potter

hpAs Seen In... The Harry Potter Movies (2001-2011) You know this guy. Little magic kid with glasses. Badass scar on his forehead. Goes to school in a massive castle. Good at charms and broomstick flying. Goes out with his best friend's sister (nice) and gets away with it. Defeats bad guys on frequent occassion. Also happens to be the chosen one. On paper, Harry Potter sounds like absolute dynamite - imagine meeting a human being with this kind of history on a night out: you'd definitely feel obliged to buy him a shot or two. And yet, for somebody who has accomplished so much in his teenage years alone, he's just so... bland. I mean, Harry Potter barely has a proper personality, does he? To me, he feels like a robot boy, programmed as best he can to act the appropriate emotions at the right times. Sure, he occasionally gets angry and raises his voice, or takes the time out to makes a goofy comment to his buddy Ron, but compared to all the weird and wonderful characters that J.K. Rowling conjured up for this spell-based franchise, Potter is an anomaly - an outline of a character who exists purely to work through her plot poins. Think about it: if you had to actually describe Harry Potter, based not on his physical attributes, you wouldn't really be able to, would you? Ron and Hermione? Definitely. The bad guys and the teachers and his fellow pupils and the lady who pushes the trolley on the Hogwarts Express? Uh-huh. Hedwig, for God's sake? I'm obliged to say yes, because I'm trying to make a point here, and to disagree with myself would be extremely dumb. I know J.K. likely designed this character to feel sort of like an"everyman," as to put children in Harry's postion and have them better relate to him. Still, Harry Potter just feels undeveloped when compared to all the others: nobody would pick him as their favourite. I feel like I know Hermione (I wish I knew her more) and Hagrid and even Ron's mum, but Harry feels like a total stranger. And not in, like, a badass Clint Eastwood way or anything.
