7 Best Henry Cavill Roles To Date

5. Napolean Solo - The Man From UNCLE

The 2015 film adaptation of the TV series of the same name sees Henry Cavill in the role of Napolean Solo, a professional theif-turned-CIA agent. He plays alongside Armie Hammer as the KGB counterpart.

The film received mixed reviews on release, with much of the praise going to Guy Ritchie's direction and the style of the film, and much of the criticism falling on the plot itself, which was found to be lacking.

Cavill, for his part, thoroughly enjoyed the film. He said in 2017 that if a sequel were to be released, he would be excited to return. He joked at the time that Guy Ritchie said to him that, in this role, people might actually come to like him. By this, Cavill refers to the paradox of playing Superman: he is perfect, therefore he is hard to identify with.

Solo is a very different character, one full of flaws and prone to mischief. The development of the character came while he and Hammer travelled to Ritchie's house, to read through the script. This was accompanied, according to Cavill, with lots of firewood chopping and lots of glasses of wine consumed.

Maybe not the best combination, but the relationship that developed between the two men is obvious on the screen. They would also work out some minor script revisions once cast, making the two characters closer to themselves.

While the film may not have lit any fires at the box office, it is a solid action flick and a fine example of Cavill's talent in front of the camera.
