4. August Walker - Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Donning the most controversial moustache in recent history, Cavill joined the Mission Impossible franchise in Mission: Impossible - Fallout as the duplicitous August Walker.

He was publicly offered the role over Instagram by the film's director, Christopher McQuarrie. He discovered very quickly that, even having played the Man of Steel himself, he was not prepared for the huge amount of physicality that the role would entail.

He spoke about the essential differences between the two films, with the primary difference being that for Superman, it was about sculpting his body to look the way it should in shirtless scenes:

'It is a very different kind of preparation for this. For Superman, it is a lot of getting the body looking a certain way when inevitably Superman gets his kit off. But for this, it is not about that. It is about prepping for the stunts, rehearsing the stunts, making sure everything is finessed and going right and I love that. It was a very different approach and I enjoyed it enormously'

This was Cavill's first openly villainous role, one that he relished. He was able to capture the two sides of August Walker and John Lark, initially displayed an overt, violent persona while later showing this to be a ruse for the cold and calculating final plan.

While his death at the end of the film precludes the possibility of his return, Cavill delivered a powerful performance that at least, in part, excuses the media frenzy surrounding the moustache that cost Warner Brother's $10million!
