1. Belle & The Beast Were Probably Butchered In The French Revolution - Beauty And The Beast
Set in France, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a beautiful girl named Belle who finds herself locked away in a castle where she is kept prisoner at the mercy of a terrifying monster. Believe it or not, this monster used to be a prince, but was cursed and transformed into a hideous creature by a witch looking to teach him a lesson. When he eventually sacrifices his life for Belle, though, the Beast is returned to his former self. Lessons are you learned, you see, and so the movie ends with the idea that these two lived happily ever after in a huge, sprawling castle and nothing bad ever happened again. Except - wait a minute! The original fairytale on which Disney's Beauty and the Beast is based is set a mere few years before the French revolution, and going by the aesthetics in the Disney version the filmmakers kept this setting in tact. You remember what happened during the French revolution, right? The peasants revolted against the rich, which means that the Beast's castle - the biggest of the lot - would have been a rather obvious place to attack. In all likelihood, Belle and her husband would have been captured and beheaded by guillotine like so many rich and fabulous people who lived during this dangerous time. Not a great time in history to live in a picturesque castle, guys. Like this article? Have you ever worried for the safety of certain Disney characters in the aftermath of their adventures?
