Time and money were two things Steven Spielberg didn't have when he was shooting Raiders of the Lost Arc. The idea was to embrace B-movie values in celebration of the movies which inspired Indiana Jones.

Senor Spielbergo ended up shooting the movie in just 73 days on a budget on $18 million, and it was a helpful suggestion from lead actor Harrison Ford that helped him trim both the runtime and the project's expenses.

That scene early in the film where Indy guns down the swordsman is legendary, teasing the audience into thinking they're about to witness an epic battle, only for hero to dispatch his opponent in a way that just makes too much sense.

The script originally called for a drawn-out showdown that would have taken three days to film and eaten into the tight budget, so Spielberg took Ford up on his suggestion to have Indy "just shoot the sucker".

Although the actor's suggestion was a shrewd one that resulted in the film's funniest moment, the fact he was suffering from dysentery and having trouble withstanding the blistering Tunisian heat during the shoot was the driving force behind it.
