3. Man on the Moon
Director: Miloš Forman. Starring: Jim Carrey, Jerry The King Lawler. Andy Kaufman was the first person to successfully mix pro-wrestling and comedy when he began wrestling defenceless women and declared himself Intergender Champion. In this critically acclaimed biopic, Jim Carrey takes on the role of the controversial comedian alongside Danny DeVito and Courtney Love. A good portion of the film, however, is dedicated to Kaufmans scripted feud with Memphis wrestler Jerry Lawler, who took exception to his woman-beating. A lifetime fan of professional wrestling, Kaufman approached various promotions including the WWF, WCW and NWA before Lawler agreed to take part in the infamous stunt. Their appearance on Late Night with David Letterman in July 1982 has become one of the most iconic moments in wrestling history, and Formans film captures their chemistry brilliantly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wpGttPSHdE Years later, upon release of Man on the Moon, Lawler claimed that not only was his entire feud with Kaufman staged, but the two were actually very good friends.
