2. Die Hard Isn't A Christmas Film

Come December, everyone begins throwing their favourite Christmas film into the proverbial hat. Therell always be the old classics (It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, Scrooge) and modern favourites (Elf), but theres bound to be at least one alternative film fan who trumpets Die Hard. In my mind, a Christmas film is one that captures the feeling of the holiday, not just one set there. Clearly theres now doubting Die Hard is a brilliant action film, both as a piece of entertainment and in terms of influence; to this day we have action films compared with it. But aside from its yuletide setting, theres nothing really Christmassy about it. It plays out incidental of the time of year its set and most importantly the film was released in summer (sun soaked July to be precise). Christmas is more an excuse to get the plot going that anything else. Iron Man 3 had Christmas play a similar size role in proceedings and to call that a Christmas movie would be ridiculous. So next time you feel like putting the DVD in on December 24th, maybe you should revaluate just how Christmassy what youre watching is.
