1. Jack Couldn't Have Survived Titanic

Every mega-smash movie goes through the same stages of praise. First comes the initial hit - with everyone taken aback by its brilliance. Then comes the backlash people wanting to be different or simply disappointed following unmatchable hype bemoan the film for being nothing special (in a serious case, this will be juxtaposed by big awards success, furthering dislike). Finally, as the furore dies down and people can finally accept the film for what it is; an over-hyped, but still great blockbuster. Titanic is the quintessential example of a massive smash hit, yet is still stuck between the second and third step. By the time its Oscar sweep came around, people had already grown cynical of Leomania and much of that germinates through to the films reputation today. Whenever the quality of the film is brought up, its common for people to immediately jump on what is viewed as a major plot hole; that Jack could have survived following the sinking as well as Rose. In the long wait for the lifeboats to return Jack helps Rose onto a floating door, but stays in the water himself and dies before help arrives. Its easy to say theres enough space on the door for two people, but thats ignoring evidence from the film; they both try to get on the raft and it cant support them. Yet another example of a plot hole coming from people simply not watching the movie.
In a special, James Cameron approved, episode of Mythbusters, the team showed that it would have been possible to have had both survivors on the door, but only if Roses life jacket was tied underneath it; something I don't think man of the world Jack could have thought of. Besides, if theyd removed her jacket, Rose would have had a much smaller chance of getting to that whistle. And that is a depressing ending.
