6. Tom Hanks As Robert Langdon In The Da Vinci Code
I am being a little harsh here as I didn't find the Da Vinci Code a horrific movie- but I did find it a dull one. It sets itself up as a massive historical quest in order to right a great historical cover up, but never really seems to get out of first gear. It's like Indiana Jones on a valium drip and so for much of the movie you have to listen to a lot of people talking about some quite dull coincidences that can't hold the movie up on its own (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy had a lot of talking as well, but it managed to make you interested with its cool dialogue and clever atmosphere). Considering the cast, it seems a shame that this movie could do no better than plod along at such a dull pace without engaging the audience. Hanks is not bad in the film- certainly not as bad as Audrey Tatou who seems to have the same surprised expression throughout most of the film, but he does get on your nerves on occasions. This is due to the fact that he seems to exhibit a certain smugness having more facts than the audience, even though some of the facts he is holding are actually blindingly obvious (5 letter word for an orb that Newton had something to do with? Hmmm...).
