With the first movie being a surprise hit (now a legend in its own right), and the second one being not too shabby, nobody expected Robocop 3 to be quite as bad as it turned out to be. In the original feature, the Robocop is a remorseless killing machine governed solely by the law. By the third movie, he is the equivalent of a toy merchant. You know, a bit weird, a bit daft, but way too creepy to be around children. As the story goes, the OCP is still trying to turn Detroit into an elitist hi-tec city, but the company has been sold to some evil Japanese firm and is now even worse. For some reason, rebels start trashing around (as if that didnt happen before) and the Japanese hire mercenaries to kill the civilians, despite the fact that they could just send some robots after them. Our hero doesnt agree with this, so he goes around murdering whatever he can, but in a G-rated manner. Robocops main nemesis in this entry is a ninja. Well, of course it is. There is also some random kid hacker prowling about, and Robocop gets a jetpack at one point in the movie. Despite the fact that the plot is abysmally stupid, by far the worst thing this movie has done is that it has thrown out all of that social commentary that the first flick had in droves. That is what made it great, and Robocop 3 turned into a barely violent wannabe action movie. It cant get much worse than that. Hopefully, the remake will do what its supposed to do (and well).
