7 Secret Villains In Comic Book Movies

5. Man-Wolf (Spider-Man 2)

You may remember that John Jameson, heroic astronaut and son to perennial pitchfork-bearer J. Jonah Jameson, made an appearance in Spider-Man 2 (played by Daniel Gillies) as Mary Jane's fiancée. For those who were familiar with some of the more obscure elements of Spider-Man's history, John Jameson was more recognisable as his bestial alter-ego, Man-Wolf. As far as the source material goes, his original appearance had him affected by spores on a mission to space which granted him super strength. He went by the name Captain Jupiter for a stretch - with his dad naturally egging him on to use those new powers on Spider-Man. Spidey was able to defeat John and remove the spores, negating his powers. Somehow, John proved doubly unlucky as he was later on a mission to the moon where he found a magical ruby - what are the chances!? It bonded itself to him (you know how these things go) and from then on every time the moon would rise, he'd turn into the terrifying lycanthropic Man-Wolf. What I wouldn't have given to see another Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man with more-than-capable Gillies returning to play Man-Wolf. A touch of Raimi's old Evil Dead sensibilities would've made for a damn fun flick, but unfortunately there are far more popular villains in Spider-Man's rogues gallery who would have taken precedence regardless. Still, the inclusion of John Jameson back in 2004 was a nice nod to fans and definitely got those gears turning in people's heads as to what could have been.
