The Movie:

In The Conjuring, Ed and Lorraine Warren visit the Perron family farmhouse to discover that the property is haunted. They soon discover that the spirit of a witch is possessing the Mother and using her to sacrifice her own children.

The witch taunts the kids by playing tricks on them, including hiding within a wardrobe and clapping during a game of hide and seek.

The True Story:

Bathseba Sherman was sentenced to death and brandished as a witch after a baby was killed by a sewing needle to the head in her care. The townspeople claimed she had given the baby as an offering to the Devil.

She died in 1885 and since then it is believed that she still lives in the house attempting to rid it of those who enter.

The Perron family wrote a book about their experience within their own home named House of Darkness: House of Light - A True Story. Ed and Lorraine also bear witness to some of the dark goings on within the house whilst visiting, including stabbing pains that were not too dissimilar to that of a sewing needle wound.
