The Movie:

Although the main plot of The Conjuring 2 did not focus on one of the most famous hauntings that has led to many different films over the years, a short flashback at the beginning of the movie gave an explanation to Lorraine’s hesitancy around using her medium abilities.

Whilst conducting a séance within the house, she saw a vision in which the murders were committed and her husband’s death was orchestrated by the Demon Nun.

The True Story:

In 1974, Ronald Defo killed his wife and children within his house in Long Island. Only two years later, George and Kathleen Lutz moved into the home with their own kids, experiencing a range of paranormal activities within the four walls of their building.

George even claimed that he became possessed himself and would often experience dark thoughts about hurting his family. After more research, historians found that the house was built on ancient burial land where rituals used to take place.

It was never confirmed if Defo was controlled by whoever or whatever was haunting the house. The Warrens visited in 1976 and captured a spirit photo of a little boy. Lorraine has later described the house as "evil".
