7 Upcoming Films Destined For Controversy

For as short a filmography as he has, Quentin Tarantino has built a legacy as one of the most influential voices of late 20th century to early 21st century filmmaking. Almost all of his films have been met with great acclaim and strong box office pull.

There are some, however, who take issues with Tarantino's "glorification" of violence and use of profanity, particularly racial epithets, in his films. Such has been the case throughout his career. Tarantino has expressed his disinterest in continuing that dialogue: ""The reason I don't want to talk about it is because I've said everything I've had to say about it. If anyone cares what I have to say about it they can Google me."

However, Tarantino has received backlash from different areas as of lately. Not only did his previous relationship with Harvey Weinstein and his own admitted complicity in Weinstein's history of sexual assault land him in trouble, but his (very) questionable methods of directing violence against women as well as his responsibility in a serious on-set injury to Uma Thurman have drawn criticism from many.

His new film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, is a revisionist history retelling of Sharon Tate's murder at the hands of the Manson family. With savage violence against women being inherent to the story, audiences will surely be wearier entering the film having learned of Tarantino's questionable directing methods. This might just be the first of Tarantino's films in which the backlash isn't just from the fringe reactions.
