1. The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist
The Film: Fans of the 2013 smash hit got the wrong kind of jitters when New Line Cinema pulled this sequel from its 23 October 2015 release date. Rumours of a rumbling lawsuit and director James Wan heading off to helm a DC Comics movie were afoot. However, unsteady calm has been restored and the next installment in this burgeoning franchise is poised for a June 2016 release. While exact plot details are brief, the film is set to swap the horrors of the Perrons' Rhode Island farmhouse for those that occurred in a council house in Enfield, England. With director James Wan returning and stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprising their roles as real life paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, this one is very promising indeed.
The Horror: In the summer of 1977, a frantic Peggy Hodgson put a call through to the police. She had no crime to announce, only that a poltergeist was running amok in her rented home. By the time paranormal investigators visited 284 Green Street, a media storm had spread throughout the UK, with the public terrified by Peggy's claims of thrown objects, demonic wailing and her children levitating up from their beds. Daughter Janet was the worst effected by this phenomena, claiming that the malevolent spirit of an old man by the name of Bill Wilkins was using her as a conduit, causing her to develop a raspy male voice and adopt a strange posture. To this day, newer occupants to the house have claimed to feel watched by a presence, reported strange bangs and even seen the shadowy form of a man creeping around the bedroom.
