7. The Entire Cast Mock Their Percieved Personas - This Is The End
On paper, This Is The End sounds like the biggest vanity project ever committed to the big screen - every comedy actor associated with the Judd Apatow movement playing themselves in an apocalypse flick. Just an excuse for a bunch of real-life friends to get together and shoot the sh*t, right? Well, not entirely. Whereas this could have turned out awfully, the end product emerged in a way that most people probably weren't expecting, given the extent to which the cast made fun of themselves and their perceived personas. You couldn't help but go along with it all. The plot of the movie, then, which has Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Jay Buschel, Danny McBride and Craig Robison trapped in a Hollywood mansion whilst the world burns outside, simply acted as a springboard for the actors to ridicule one another on real-life misfortunes and play exaggerated versions of what audiences members probably think they're like: Seth Rogen gets called out on his ability to play just "one character," James Franco plays the artsy douche we all know he probably is, and pretty much everyone gets derided for their box office flops, which includes but isn't restricted to The Green Hornet and The Sitter. That's not all: a bunch of other celebrities also turn up to parody the hell out of their on-screen personas, which means we get a cocaine-addicted Michael Cera and an Emma Watson who swears like a b*stard and wields an axe. Yep: This Is The End is vanity done totally right.
