Against all odds, Christopher Nolan managed to follow up The Joker in The Dark Knight with a villain almost as memorable. Tom Hardy's Bane has entered pop culture in much different way than Heath Ledger's Joker, but he's arguably more quoted and impersonated.

What you might have forgotten, though, is the huge controversy that surrounded Bane's voice when the clips from the film were first shown. Fans and critics despaired over the fact that Hardy's dialogue was practically incomprehensible. Initially, Christopher Nolan denied that Bane's voice would be altered, but it soon became clear that a change had taken place.

Of course, the controversy has largely been forgotten now owing to the fix, but there still exists evidence online of Bane's previously gruffer voice.
