8 Big Movie Stars That Started As Background Extras
5. Charlize Theron - Children of the Corn 3: Urban Harvest
The third instalment in this corny horror franchise moves the story away from the cornfields of Nebraska to inner city Chicago. An evil little sprog, descended from a weird death cult, is adopted by a loving family and he repays them by growing his own private cornfield in an empty factory so he can summon an evil god. Kids today huh? He begins to brainwash and convert the other children in his school to his religion, and in amongst the faces in the crowd is a young Charlize Theron. She pops up in a couple of scenes, even earning some close ups before coming to a rather unpleasant end in the finale. The evil god is summoned and starts to butcher all of the cult members. They try to flee and Charlize gets snared on a vine and she ends up getting a tentacle in... well, a bad place to get a tentacle. So it's probably fair to say that this is one film she wouldn't mind erasing from her CV. One impressive aside for this franchise is that it seemed to be a breeding ground for talented up and coming actresses, with Charlize, Naomi Watts and Eva Mendes all coming through various sequels with their dignity intact. And it's downright impressive that the producers managed to take a short story by Stephen King and milk eight (!) movies out of it.
