8 Books That Need To Be Made Into Movies

Romance novels and films are nothing new. Since the turn of the century, it feels as though the genre is at an all-time high in terms of popularity, thanks to such book-to-screen adaptations as The Notebook, One Day, The Time Traveller's Wife and Carol. Though many of these films gave new and innovative looks at the romance genre, Laura Barnett's debut novel The Versions of Us has to be the most original and intelligent.

The novel is told in three parts. More specifically, it tells the story of a relationship in three separate timelines, each radically different to the last, showing the reader how even the smallest of things can change your future. In version one, Eva and Jim meet and marry; in version two, they don't cross paths when they were supposed to; and in version three, their marriage goes horribly wrong.

Underneath the twisting and clever narrative, The Versions of Us is a also a moving romance and a seamless portrait of how life can take different turns based on the choices we make. In a genre over-stuffed with few daring plots, TVOU might just be the film we need. Sweet, touching, funny and full of brilliant, well-realised characters, it would also give the actors chosen the opportunity to play multiple versions of the same character, which could prove to be a compelling on-screen spectacle.
