8 Captain America: Civil War Characters Guaranteed To Disappoint

3. Everett Ross

Who? When it was revealed that Sherlock star Martin Freeman had landed an undisclosed role in Captain America: Civil War, the rumour mill went into overdrive. Henry Peter Gyrich (a government liaison to The Avengers with occasionally sinister motivations of his own) was a popular theory, and while Marvel has yet to make it official, reliable sources claim that he's actually Everett Ross. He's a nobody in the comics who made a handful of appearances as a US Government Agent assigned to Wakanda, and while his part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be beefed up a little, chances are that he'll be taking on a similar role here due to the introduction of Black Panther. While it's certainly possible that he'll reappear in that character's movie, this feels like a waste of Freeman's talents, especially as he's coming off a leading role in The Hobbit trilogy. There are better ways he could have been used in this world, and unless he's revealed as the new Red Skull or something, this already feels like a major let down. Perhaps it's too soon to judge this particular character when we know so little about him, but if he doesn't have a major role in Civil War - and it's certainly looking that way right now - the only way Marvel might be able to redeem this is with an after-credits scene featuring him for some reason meeting with Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange! What a reunion that would be...
