2. Toy Story 2 and 3 Both Werent Going To Be Pixar
The Films You Know: Just as critics heralded Toy Story 3 as the perfect sequel, many state the Toy Story films as the perfect trilogy. While that may be taking it a little far, theres no denying theyre a pretty great series of films. The first one revolutionised animation, but the sequels really pushed where the medium could go. Even though Pixar dropped the ball with Cars 2, their Toy Story sequels are right up there as major classics.
The Films That Almost Happened: Both of the brilliant sequels were almost produced with no input from Pixar. Following the success of Toy Story, Disney wanted to cash in, but director John Lasseter was quick on the ball and the managed to keep the film in-house (and away from direct-to-video purgatory). But when it came to Toy Story 3, things got a lot further. With their contract coming to an end, Disney and Pixar had a fall out. Not the end of the world, except that Disney had the rights to all the previous films and immediately set about getting Circle 7 Animation to make rushed sequels to the lamp houses films. Among them (and the most developed) was a Toy Story 3 where malfunctioning Buzz Lightyears are recalled, leading Woody and the gang to Taiwan to try and rescue him. Thankfully, Lasseter took over Disney Animation soon after and halted production before it was too late.
