8 Comic Book Characters That Deserve Another Movie (And How To Do It)
4. Spawn
As designs go Spawn is such a great, eye-catching character that any movie could be sold on the poster alone. That appears to be what New Line Cinema thought as well, as their take on Spawn was a witless affair that pandered to a young teenage audience. It removed the dark psychological elements and the gore, replacing them with horrible CGI and a crappy nu-metal soundtrack. The movie did passable business but didnt spawn (sorry) a series. Since then creator Todd McFarlane has kept a tight grip on the rights, with the only version hell allow to get made is one directed by him. It would be an extra violent detective story that barely features Spawn. As hes been talking about it for over a decade it's unlikely to ever happen. How To Do It Should McFarlane allow a reboot than there are plenty of directions it could go. The comic is stuffed with great characters and mythology that could be adapted for a series, with the first movie retelling Spawns origin. Fan favourites like the angel bounty hunter Angela could also make an appearance to set up future movies. They messed it up badly the first time around, so if they get a talented actor for Al Simmons and a director who can mix gothic horror with action (maybe James Wan) they'll have a ready made franchise for the taking. Also ditch the nu-metal; that's so mid-nineties.
