8 Continuity Flaws That Ruin A Film Series During A Binge Watch
3. The Rhodey Not Taken - Iron Man 2
Marvel became famous for playing hardball with actors when it came to fee negotiation. They paid Mickey Rourke and Scarlet Johansson tiny salaries for Iron Man 2, and ditched Terrence Howard after overpaying him for the first movie. Curiously for that one, Howard was the first signed up, and despite being in a supporting role he was paid the most.
Marvel wanted to majorly cut down his salary for part two, and when he refused a pay snip he got replaced with Don Cheadle. Since the chemistry between Howard and Downey, Jr played a big role in the original, it makes the switch to Cheadle feel off when the sequel comes around.
Sure, he’s still good, but he and Howard have completely different energies, so the dynamic is off. Cheadle went on to really make the role his own in part three forwards, and now he’s the actor everyone pictures in the part.
