While huge numbers of people have continued to flock to cinemas to watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe unravel since the MCU launched with Iron Man back in 2008, a good portion of those cinemagoers don't necessarily keep up to speed with what goes on in the various Marvel TV shows.

For anyone watching the 22 MCU movies to date, they'll be under the impression that Agent Phil Coulson was killed at the hands of Loki back in 2012's first Avengers movie. But for those who have supplemented the silver screen MCU offerings with a side of the various Marvel TV series out there, Coulson has actually been alive and well for all of this time - even though the movie side of the MCU has yet to once address Agent Coulson's continued existence since his "death" in The Avengers.

In the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, it was explained how Coulson was taken to the Guest House safety facility and saved using treatments originated from the Project T.A.H.I.T.I. that Nick Fury's right-hand man had previously been working on.

At times, Agent Coulson was discussed for a big-screen return in Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the only movie appearance we've actually had for Coulson since The Avengers came in Captain Marvel - a film that took place in the '90s.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
