8 Dick Moves Filmmakers Used To Improve Actors' Performances

7. Edward Norton Really Punches Brad Pitt In The Head "I want you to hit me as hard as you can," Brad Pitt says to Edward Norton in the first act of Fight Club. What follows is one of the most awkward fight scenes two grown men have ever participated in, including that time I tried to wrestle away a turkey leg from my uncle. Norton flails a bit before socking Pitt in the ear, to which Pitt aptly responds, "You hit me in the ear!" If Pitt sounds genuinely shocked, it's because he was. Norton wasn't supposed to actually make contact with Pitt, because that's not what acting is. But just before they started to roll film on the scene, director David Fincher pulled Norton aside and told him to go ahead and hit him for real, because David Fincher thinks multimillion dollar movie stars are the same thing as action figures. If you watch the clip, you can briefly see Norton crack a smile after witnessing his co-star's earnest reaction. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJXY9u-0u3M
