8 Dystopian Films That Might Come True
2. Cherry 2000
Here’s another post-apocalyptic movie in the Mad Max mould where the United States is divided up into desert wasteland where it’s every man for himself and “civilized” zones ruled by sexist slobs.
Cherry 2000 takes place in 2017 where according to the trailer, “mankind has survived but romance has not.” Lawyers are required to draw up contracts so their clients can engage in sexual encounters, but luckily for businessman Sam (David Andrews, who’s also in Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines), technology has evolved to allow bachelors to purchase female androids.
Known as Cherry 2000s, these substitute wives and girlfriends don’t argue or complain, they just wear tight clothes and offer companionship as and when it’s required. When not in use or doing the housework, they can be switched off, making them even better than the real thing.
What Sam doesn’t realize is that his Cherry 2000 isn’t waterproof, so when his model short circuits during a bathroom romp, he removes her memory disk and sets out to find a replacement in Zone 7, a lawless area ruled by punks dressed in 80s fashions.
How far will one man be prepared to go in his pursuit of the perfect Stepford Wife? What do you think?
