8 Early Drafts That Almost Ruined Iconic Movie Endings
3. Pretty Woman
Consistently listed as one of the best rom-coms of all time, and featuring a central story that's sure to warm even the most stoic of hearts - Pretty Woman is everything it is because of its ending. Everything works out great, everyone is happy, and the audience know exactly what they're getting from start to finish. Lovely.
Telling the tale of a prostitute hired to keep a cruel businessmen company for social events, and some more er... private ones too, the two spend a week together that intrinsically changes each of them for the better. And, of course, their transaction transforms into the pair falling in love.
The Ending
Searching out his pretty woman, Julia Roberts, Richard Gere turns up at her apartment building and woos her after realising he too is in love with her. The soundtrack plays, there's lots of smiles, everyone cheers, all illnesses are cured, kittens and puppies rain down - it's the standard fuzzy ending the film deserves that you can watch below.
The Original
Well, in a twist of fate that would have potentially been amazing, but likely ruined the entire experience and marred one of the best romances of the 90s, the original draft was very different. Taking the business transaction on face value, Richard Gere throws Julia Roberts out onto the streets with her wad of cash on top of her before driving off into the distance. Dark.
