8 Elements Of The Star Wars Expanded Universe That Need To Be Canon
5. Prince Xizor
The EU criminal organisation Black Sun is now part of the continuity thanks to The Clone Wars TV series, but its most infamous leader has not yet appeared in any canon stories. Yet. Introduced as the primary antagonist in the Shadows Of The Empire novel, Thrawn is depicted as being a highly sophisticated, cunning, and ruthless businessman who is also more than capable of handling himself in a fight. He also had a somewhat more humane side, developing a deep attraction to Princess Leia in addition to secretly wanting revenge on the Empire for the death of his family. A truly complex and fascinating villain. George Lucas famously said that he would have turned Shadows Of The Empire into a film had it been released in the '80s, something that would make sense as a new Star Wars Story (like Rogue One) - aside from being one heck of a page turning book, it perfectly bridges the gap between The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. And if an adaptation doesn't interest Disney, then Xizor is such an interesting character he could be put in a different story, a la Thrawn. There's been plenty of dark lords and military leaders in Star Wars, now it's time for a charismatic businessman.
