As if a modern example of Law, Idris Elba has spent the last half-decade or so being permanently attached to the Bond name. He has the look, the style, the muscles and the voice. But, as with Law, it feels that time is no longer on Elba’s side. However, whilst Elba may be to old for Bond, playing the more experienced CIA agent Felix Leiter is still a very exciting prospect for audiences everywhere.

Whilst Leiter seems to have been forgotten since Casino Royale, Jeffrey Wright brought the character back to audiences as a cool and calm contrast to the recklessness of Craig’s Bond. As he’s proved time and time again, Idris Elba is the epitome of cool, yet his role in the hit series Luther as the titular detective proves that, when needed, he could play Leiter with more volatile force.

Leiter has been described by Fleming as one of Bond’s closer friends and films such as License to Kill have shown this. Therefore, with a new franchise, the producers should use the opportunity to have such a star like Elba, who can also do an expert American accent, as a guiding mentor and handler for Bond.
