8 Famous Movie Endings People Always Get Totally Wrong

1. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989)

Paramount Pictures

The Ending... When Henry Jones Snr. is shot by a smarmy Nazi collaborator, Indy works his way through a series of dangerous challenges to retrieve the Holy Grail, which can heal any wound, and will make the drinker immortal. Indy drinks from the Grail to make sure it's the real deal, and uses it to prevent his father's death. Having thwarted the Nazis for a second time, Indy and his Dad escape a crumbling temple, and ride off into the sunset. Woo!

What Everybody Thinks... "So Indy and his Dad are, like, immortal now, right? Awesome!"

But Wait... Whether it's because this particular point of Grail lore doesn't get a full-on explanation movie, or because people stop listening to exposition once a movie reaches its 90th minute, the Grail Knight does explain that, although the Holy Grail will grant immortal life to anybody who drinks from it, it only does so if you stay in the temple. As in, if you don't cross the seal at the entrance (which Indy and his Dad both do).

Which is why the Knight is, like, thousands of years old, but Henry Jones Snr. is dead in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Whether or not you think this is actually pretty obvious, the world is rife with people who still think that Indy is immortal having sipped from Jesus' prestigious cup. Nope: still a regular guy. Y

You can even find pictures of him online as an old fart with an eye patch and everything!
