8 Famous Movies You Didn't Know Had Abandoned Happy Endings

2. I Am Legend (2007)

i-am-legend-dark-seeker-infected-zombieThe "Sad" Ending... Well, this ending is kind of sad, and kind of happy, but mostly it's a load of , because it renders the title of the movie totally pointless, and makes no attempt to actually convey the meaning behind Richard Matheson's original novel. Still, the ending we got had Robert Neville blowing himself up with a grenade so that his new love interest and her son could escape from the Darkseekers. Said love interest and her son manage to get away as a result, and take refuge at a human stronghold that they manage to find somewhere. Bah! The "Abandoned" Happy Ending... Though this ending still doesn't really do justice to Matheson's novel, it at least attempts to explain the title of the movie in a way that acknowledges its meaning in the book. The abandoned ending had the Darkseekers trying to find the captured female of their clan that Neville has in his house, see, only for him to discover that - once he returns her to them - that he's their monster. Here's their terrifying legend, akin to our own "vampire." I mean, it's not perfect, and there are details missing, but it would have made more sense than what we actually got.
