8 Films That Were Supposed To End The Series (But Got Sequels Anyway)

4. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Paramount Pictures

How long until the next one: Three years

Number of movies after this: One (and another on the way)

How they tried to end it: The Decepticons all die

Transformers: Dark of the Moon didn't advertise itself as the end, but it was clearly thought of as a finale during production. After all, Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay both confirmed they wouldn't be doing another sequel after this. And the movie makes sense as the conclusion of the trilogy, wrapping things up with all the Decepticons being defeated. Seems like a good place to close things out, right?

But when the movie made $1.1 billion, Paramount threw buckets of money at Michael Bay and he agreed to come back for a fourth installment. That was a bummer for fans who hoped some other director might take over and do the Transformers justice, but it looks like there will be plenty more of these Michael Bay movies for years to come.
