8 Films That Were Supposed To End The Series (But Got Sequels Anyway)

3. Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 Ending
Pixar

How long until the next one: Seven years

Number of sequels after this: One (announced for 2017)

How they tried to end it: Andy gives his toys away and moves on

Part of the reason Toy Story 3 was so emotional was that it was the last adventure with these characters. This was the end of the trilogy and just like Andy had to say goodbye to his toys, the audience had to say goodbye as well. Fans were leaving their childhood behind.

Sure, there was the possibility of Pixar making some shorts or TV specials, but it was clear that the movie series was over and it ended on the perfect note. And while they didn't call it Toy Story 3: The Final Chapter, everyone at Pixar said there were no plans to make another one.

Then last fall they announced Toy Story 4 for a 2017 release date. Why? This completely ruins the movie's themes of moving on and letting things go. Pixar usually never milks their franchises dry, so for them to go back and keep a series going after it wrapped up perfectly is pretty disappointing.
