8 Godzilla Films You Need To See

5. Godzilla Vs Destoroyah

Final Wars Godzilla
Toho

Once again, everyone’s favourite nuclear-fuelled amphibian is on the rampage but this time there’s a twist: the amount of nuclear fission in Godzilla’s body means that he’ll increase in size until he explodes, vaporizing everything in sight.

In order to save the city, a group of scientists pit the big G against Destoroyah, a giant alien mantis, in a fight to the death. What they don’t realize is that Godzilla is out to avenge his supposedly dead son Minya (see: Godzilla Vs Space Godzilla) and won’t go down without a spectacular, no holds barred climactic fight.

Toho’s 22nd Godzilla movie, Destoroyah was the final part of the company’s second wave of Godzilla movies that began in 1984 with The Return Of Godzilla. Conceived as a grand finale, the big G goes out in a blaze of glory but didn’t remain dormant long: four years later, he was back in Godzilla 2000.
