8 Horror Movies So Awful They Were Pulled From The Cinema

7. The Conjuring 2 (2016)

A Cure For Wellness
Warner Bros.

The Conjuring series may have been a smash with UK and American audiences, but the French have consistently given these films a perplexingly aggressive reception, including cinema audiences rioting at Annabelle in 2014.

The Conjuring 2 sees the return of the fictionalised versions of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), who come out of retirement for One. Last. Job. Well, kind of. They travel to North London and meet Peggy Hodgson, a single mother of four who has been experiencing something evil in her home. Malignant spirits make themselves known and possessions are soon underway.

While far from the weakest entry in the series, The Conjuring 2 sparked an audience reaction of general ridicule and mayhem in France, with early reports of excessive laughter, hysterical yelling and screen-wide brawls. This then led to the film being banned by the majority of the 262 French cinemas that were going to show it, with some removing it shortly after release, some pulling it on release day, and many opting not to screen it at all.
