8 Huge Captain America: Civil War & Doctor Strange Reveals From D23

2. A Clever Way Of Introducing Redwing

When the first official image of Anthony Mackie as The Falcon was released, it was met with a collective groan from comic book fans. As expected, Marvel had put him in the grey costume from the Ultimate line, and while it worked in the context of the story, it was hard not to be disappointed to see him in some version of his classic red suit. That's obviously since been featured in both Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Ant-Man much to everyone's delight, but if there's one element from the comics which seemed unlikely to ever be introduced, it's Redwing. A falcon who Sam Wilson shares a psychic bond with, getting that to work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a real stretch, especially in a world as grounded as Captain America's. Amazingly, Civil War has found a way to introduce that beloved bird... sort of. The footage shown revealed that Redwing will be a robotic drone that Sam uses to scope out the area before The Avengers move in. That's near identical to how the comic book version of Redwing works as The Falcon is able to see through his bird's eyes. While there aren't exactly a huge amount of fans out there who would have been devastated to never see Redwing on the big screen, it's great that the Russo Brothers have still found a way of incorporating him into the movie. What that drone sees actually sets the stage for the footage's biggest set piece too...
