8 HUGE Movies That Were Cancelled Just Before Shooting
3. Mouse Guard
As whimsical as a movie based on a medieval mouse community and their loyal knights of the Mouse Guard might sound, this project was not to be, and it's all thanks to the Disney/Fox merger. Thanks for nothing AGAIN, Fox.
Based on the bi-monthly comic of the same name, Mouse Guard was intended as a motion-captured movie by Wes Ball, who had Andy Serkis and Thomas Thomas Brodie-Sangster on board for his main characters. The story is one the follows Lieam, a new member of the Mouse Guard who has to prove his bravery - joining the initiative to protect mouse kind against predators and escort travellers between secret mouse kingdoms. It's all incredibly adorable sounding and was solidly on the way to filming, but the problem with its production came down to bad timing from the big studio merger earlier this year.
With Fox's properties coming under Disney control, you'd think they would have some allegiances to mice at this point - but they decided to dump the project and allow it to be shopped around elsewhere, if the producers want another a home for it. A massive $170 million budget projection probably didn't help their case much.
