8 Important Lessons From The Films of 2012

2. Remakes and Long-Drawn Franchises Still Have Kick When Done Right - Dredd & Skyfall

You couldn't count the number of misguided hate comments for the Dredd remake and the James Bond franchise was looking pretty bleak after financial issues and a final film in the form of Quantum of Solace. But Dredd returned with a newfound respect for its source material, tone, and character, and early reviews have said that Skyfall could be the best Bond film we've gotten. I, at this point in time, have not seen Skyfall, but its almost unanimous praise has all but ensured that it's a genuine return to form. So, we have two types of movies to keep that small flame of hope burning in remakes and franchise continuations. It's all a matter of getting the right people involved. Who knows? Maybe we could all sit through a Twilight film with the right hands at the wheel. Maybe Francis Ford Coppola? Grasping at straws, here.

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
